Yoga Therapy

Anita and Kelly also offer private yoga sessions to individuals who wish to explore in depth the therapeutic benefits of yoga and meditation to their emotional well being.

Private yoga sessions are a powerful complement to psychotherapy, and can be particularly beneficial to students who are hesitant to explore yoga in a larger class setting. There is a growing body of research suggesting that yogic practices can help to decrease stress and anxiety, as well as improve mood. Yoga teaches practitioners how to regulate their internal state, improving one’s ability to handle strong emotions and stay centered.

Private yoga sessions provide an opportunity to develop a personal yoga program that addresses one’s emotional, physical, and spiritual needs. The overall goal is to create a foundation for a personal yoga practice that can support you on all levels. Yoga and meditation practices are applied therapeutically (as needed) to address emotional and psychological imbalances.

Both Kelly and Anita welcome collaboration with other therapists and helping professionals.

“It’s very striking that there’s nothing in western culture that teaches us that we can learn to master our own physiology— solutions always come from outside, starting with relationships, and if those fail, alcohol or drugs. Yoga teaches us that there are things we can do to change our brainstem arousal system, our sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems and to quiet the brain.” Yoga and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: An Interview with Bessel van der Kolk, MD – Integral Yoga Magazine (2009), pp. 12-13
